Fifty six outstanding films have been tagged as early selections for Cucalorus 13. Several thematic programs are emerging for this year's festival - including Spotlight Africa, World Film, Racial Rewind, and lots of Super Shorts.

Spotlight Africa will include early selections War/Dance, Somay Ku: A Uganda Tennis Story (work-in-progress), I Want to Be A Pilot, and Massacre at Murambi. Racial Rewind's early films include Banished, Dare Not Walk Alone, Moving Midway and Greensboro: Closer to Truth.

Narrative features among the early picks include: RedMeansGo, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, Drained, Le Petite Guide De Vengeance, Princess, Red Road, Prinzessin, and Just Like the Son. Docs include: Everything's Cool, Nobody, Forgotten, The Unkown Soldier, Mr. Schneider Goes to Washington, Frank and Cindy, Lost and Found in Mexico, Mountain Top Removal, Marching Once More, For the Bible Tells Me So, and Monster Camp.

I'm on my way to the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland, where I once worked as a film print transporter. I'm escaping just before festival madness hits Cucaloria to visit old friends and watch a few films that might be a good fit for Cucalorus 13.

Final selections for this year's festival will be announced in early September. Approximately 150 films will be slated for the final schedule - selected by our programmers from over 800 entries. Smile awhile, and check back for updates from the land of haggis and bad plaid.
